How DID you manage those photos! My feathered subjects fly off if I am too close and even my zoom needs the right lighting for a decent photo. Yours are great!
I did use a zoom lens, but I also have to admit that we are lucky enough to live amongst the trees! I basically just set up the tripod on our verandah and wait. With the warmer weather we've had the last 3 days, these little birds have literally been wallowing in the sun making them an easier subject to capture.
Technical stuff? Used landscape option, increased exposure bias by +0.3 or +0.7 and I always change the WB according to weather/lighting. The reason I increased the exposure bias is because even though it was a sunny day, the bird was in a dark spot under a branch. In hind sight I would probably have got a better angle if I'd gone under the verandah as on the verandah I was looking down on the bird. But...still learning all this technical stuff! Experiment...take lots of shots and pick out the best...look at the details to see what works.
Ahhhh, I'm still learning about fiddling with the WB as I usually just 'trick' the autofocus but it doesn't guarantee the best photo. Thanks for the tip :).
