Juxtaposition

In a little corner of Sydney, amongst the concrete, skyscrapers, steel, and glass is a pocket of tranquility called the Chinese Gardens of Friendship. 

On our recent visit to Sydney we had not intended to visit the gardens. As the three of us, that is myself, my daughter and grand daughter walked by, the entrance to the gardens aroused Little Miss Five's curiosity. Since our main aim at the time was to find somewhere to eat, we ventured in, firstly because the garden boasts a tea house, and secondly the entrance fee is minimal. 

Little Miss Five loved the gardens. She had her point-and-shoot camera with her and took many photographs.

Me, on the other hand, found my eye drawn not only to the tranquil scenery of the gardens but the juxtaposing of them with what is beyond the walled garden.

I hope you find the following scenes as beguiling as I do.

We took a trip to the city today.

To Darling Harbour to be exact - to visit the Sydney Aquarium.

An underwater world exists below

 Sydney Harbour.

Where dugongs - as large as cows - eat nothing but lettuce...

and 

sharks entertain...

Water men look surprised...

Children are enthralled...

Outdoors again

Storks continue the theme.

It was all a bit of a reprieve from the overwhelming heat we've been having. 

It felt exhilarating to get out of the house, to join holidaymakers in Sydney.

Mostly, I've been housebound because of the heat and low humidity.

And we weren't the only ones to make the most of it!

 

Day 329/366

Because I took so many photographs on Wednesday afternoon, I thought I would continue to share a number of them over the next few days or so.

Here we are on the approach to Sydney CBD, after leaving the ANZAC Bridge.

Cockle Bay is to the left, and out of view.

Cockle Bay was the site of the first brick making venture in Australia, or as it was know then, Botany Bay.

Sydney Tower peeks above buildings belonging to various financial institutions.

This tower is a member of The World Federation of Great Towers.

On the right is the IMAX theatre which boasts the largest screen in the world. 

But I think the winner in this photograph, is the sky.

When Sydney shines...she knows how to shine.
