11.11.11

What will you remember the eleventh of the eleventh of the eleventh for?
So far it's been a rather ordinary day for me, except for one thing:  I have been waiting and waiting for our batch of silkworm eggs to emerge.  I should have know that they would wait for a full moon!
Yes, it was a full moon this morning at 0617hours.
Here is a pic of the emerging silkworms.

Have a fun day!

  1. I would love to have silkworms again as they are so fascinating to watch. Where do you get the eggs?

  2. Hi Ian, I bought some silkworms at our local markets last year and I refrigerated the eggs from resulting moths over autumn and winter. Mmmm...If I'd know, I could have put some in the post to you...perhaps you would be interested later on this season, as if eggs aren't refrigerated they will hatch as long as the weather is still warm. let me know. S.P.

  3. Thanks and I would love to take you up on the offer as there are so many Mulberry trees in my neighbourhood.Would you like a plant in exchange?

  4. Ian, have been mulling (no pun intended) over your generous offer. Silkworms are doing well and I have parted with around 100 but the numbers never seem to lessen! As the time draws closer to egg production I'll let you know. Living on a steep & rocky bush block is difficult for planting fruiting trees. So will look at my options. Other than that may be able to plant on family property down south?
