Day 191/366

Today, I started a new patchwork quilt.

Here's a sneak peak.

The patchwork braid is so easy.

I have fallen in love with it.

Day 174/366

Remember this?

Baby Jorja was born about four weeks ago.

We have yet to visit the family and their new addition.

By all accounts, she is a little angel.

Except for a few threads to be tied in, and the addition of a label, the quilt is ready for gifting.

I have machined the quilt myself, on my sewing machine, very simply, by sewing around each circle while sewing the flaps down to make the petals (and form the 'fake' cathedral windows).

I chose the fabrics on line and I was a little anxious about how true to life the fabrics appeared online.

Well, I couldn't be happier.  

My first online fabric purchase and the selection of fabrics couldn't have been better co-ordinated, I don't think.

Let's see if I can attach label and tie in threads before the end of the weekend!

Then it's a visit to little Jorja, hopefully next weekend (if Mr Honey Pie isn't rostered on at work).

Tea Cup Tuesday

It's a girl.

I love the simplicity of this trio. 

A pink splatter underglaze.

Easily co-ordinated I think.

Our talented niece, who is expecting a girl,  baked and decorated the gorgeous cupcakes and mini biscuits for her baby shower.

I picked up this Wade trio at the Glenbrook Rotary Markets.

It's in good condition although the gold edging is a little worn.

I purchased this trio because I liked the colour and condition of the crockery and it was affordable.  

Just in case you're wondering, baby is expected in around three weeks!

Day 37/366

In The Pink.

Today, I managed to do some sewing.

So I played around with  half square triangles.

Then I played around with the camera.

Manual setting,shutter speed, white balance, tripod,two second timer.

Today's photographs weren't as successful as past days, but the colour in the above shot was very lifelike.

Two second shutter speed, ISO 100, white balance set at tungsten.

Fern Stitch Lacy Diamond Pattern

This winter, I've been looking at everyone's beautifully lacy scarves with much envy.

I have a fine collection of scarves but it seems that this year's fashion has produced masses of much more romantic looking scarves and cowls than my lot.

So, as I have almost a whole ball of Panda Magnum 8ply leftover from Darcy I've been practising my lacy knitting with it in the hope that I can splurge on some lace weight yarn for a new scarf for next winter.

So far so good.

As a child I picked up the sequence of this type of pattern very quickly and mostly completed anything up to twenty rows without referring to the pattern.

Alas, my mind is no longer as sharp as it was back then! 

Perhaps a decimal point has shifted in my IQ.

WIP Wednesday

Mohair Sweater, finished.

With the left-over Mohair, I made Darcy.

Dr Seuss #2 is very much turning out as 

a-make-it-up-as-you-go-along quilt top!

I'm happy with how it's turning out.

Dr Seuss #1 is awaiting label (still).

Not much other progress going on this week due to health issues.

Mr Honey Pie has been very good though and re-do of study (Room #2)is at 

painting-all-finished stage, just waiting for my input now.

I have sanded back the Guest Bedroom desk,

now have to decide on a finish.

Darcy The Sheep.

In amongst the cooking, washing, ironing, shopping, cleaning, weeding, sewing, knitting, visiting people in hospital, going to funerals, babysitting, and visits to the doctor, I heard a little voice ask me:

Nanna, could you make me a sheep?

My Gorgeous Girl, for you, anything.

Nanna, I love bells.

Guest Bedroom Progress

It's been a busy week.

Managed to get most of the guest bedroom complete.  

Still need to get a bedside table lamp, a new floor rug and I would like to make some bunting for the blue wall.

The pleated blind is waiting to go to the cleaners so had to make do with the roller shutter for this photograph.

A new patchwork quilt would be nice too!

In this corner I plan to put a small desk which is waiting for a renovation.
The cushion cover is a crocheted cover that I picked up from Frou Frou during a sale...just because I liked the look of it.
The framed embroidery is one I completed in 1997 and has been in hiding a good part of the time since then.

The Bears belong to Youngest Son (who is now 24 year old).

I couldn't resist making new clothes for this one - I knitted a little top and made a pair of bloomers for it.  Grand Daughter loved it and spent hours dressing and undressing both the bears.

In the background are more beautiful lace pillow slips from Frou Frou.

Art works are by Lindy Longhurst. I love Lindy's work and the larger one was one of her first pieces.

They were in the master bedroom but I'm feeling that it's time for them to move on.  I didn't really want to part with them and I think they suit the guest room perfectly.

Still a lot of work to do but I'm feeling very satisfied with how things are turning out.

The room now makes the rest of the house look so dreary that it has urged me on to start on the next room - The Study!

Thrifty Thursday.

Do I like chenille?  Not particularly but I instantly fell in love with this double bed bed spread when I spotted it in my local St. Vinnie's store yesterday.

Why?  Well, the colours are just so ME!  It's not often I see something and KNOW immediately that it's right.

And at $25 it's a bargain.

Here it's on a king single bed but it fits perfectly on a double bed too.

Only problem now is do I use it on the guest bed or do I use it on the loft studio bed?

Pink and green...my favourite colour combination.  Just a blush of pink, and such a soft, soft green.

The browns go perfectly with the guest bedroom rug too...hmmm.

A Girl Can NEVER Have Too Many Tutus

Picked up one more tutu for my darling Grand Daughter!

From where I hear you say?  Well from Frou Frou of course.  Wandered up to see the happenings of Springwood Foundation Day Saturday just gone and picked  up this delightful pink tutu for only five dollars.  Every girl MUST HAVE a PINK tutu!

One More Tutu ...

Yesterday, I found this gorgeous red tutu in Frou Frou .
Frou-Frou is one of my favourite shops in Springwood and a number of items purchased from here adorn my house.
My G-D already has a blue tutu but is always asking for a pink one.  Believe it or not, the blue one belonged to her mother at around the age of eight.
  I'm sure this one will delight her, even if it's not pink.  It's in the wash at the moment and I'm hoping it will have dried in time for her return from pre-school this afternoon.
