Breakfast

I'm trying to be good and have something each morning resembling a meal for breakfast.
Because of his line of work, Mr HP is home for breakfast quite often and when he is breakfast is oat porridge loaded with lots of extras like homemade apple sauce, cinnamon, chia seeds, and homemade yoghurt.
On the days that I have my Grand Daughter for breakfast I make porridge too but I refuse to make porridge any other time.
The reason is simple-I hate porridge.
I eat it because I know it's good for me!
So on the other days I get a bit lazy and mostly have coffee which carries me through to lunch.
But I've decided that I need to do more so this is this morning's breakfast.
One poached egg on a rice cake, a persimmon and an affogato coffee.
If there is a fruit I love, it has to be the persimmon - the old style - which you have to eat when absolutely soft and gooey.

What's your favourite easy breakfast?

Let It Go...

I have to let go of the guilt, the guilt of living in a full figure, the guilt of having a sweet tooth!
I love sweet, I hate bitter. Everyday is a struggle to not eat sweet.
It comes to a point, after days and days of not eating sweet I splurge on sweet.
So, quite by accident I found an impressive blog called frugalfeeding.  I was searching for a meal makeover using leftover veal and found this and it lead me to this.  I figured I don't need to feel too guilty about eating sweet when there's like a total of 50g of added sugar in the whole recipe. (I skipped the sugar-sprinkle-while-warm).  The currants add their own level of sweetness.
I turned these into a gluten free treat by substituting the plain flour with gluten free flour (Orgran Brand) with no problems at all.  They were sooo easy to make.

I'm enjoying these right now with a cup of Earl Grey tea.

Preparing for a Detox

Day One

Day Two

Day Three

I have never done a juice fast before but I'm seriously thinking of doing one this year.
In preparation I'm replacing one meal each day with a juice - mostly of vegetable.
Even though it's only been three days, I've had some 'interesting' side effects; from nausea to a huge burst of energy.

Have you tried a juice fast before?
How did you find it?
What effects did you experience?

Day 154/366

The first Saturday of each month means an early start to the day and a trip  to Penrith for the Hawkesbury Harvest grower's market.
I've transformed my in-season produce into a still life for you to enjoy.
Corella Pears, Persimmon and Red Delicious Apples are just a few of the items I purchased; along with a new African Violet plant.
I buy my fruit and veg. from Nashdale Fruit Co, my lamb and poultry from Drovers Choice and herbal teas from Neat Janes Teas.
I've also discovered that I can buy preservative free sausages from the market and plan to try them out next month; as I'd spent my allowance by the time I'd discovered them.
In a fortnight we will be off to the Glenbrook Rotary Markets.
The Glenbrook Markets are mostly craft markets with a little vintage, and yummy food thrown in.
Nashdale is a huge draw card at Glenbrook and I find that fortnight (roughly) visits is just right to keep us going with fresh fruit and vegetables.

I prefer to buy as much of our food from local growers to help support Australian farmers.  Much of what I buy from these markets is not only grown locally  but organically too.
Direct marketing ensures that the farmer - consumer benefits are maximised.
And if you live in Australia, here is a

Is It Any Wonder?

Is it any wonder that giving up Chocolate for Lent is difficult?  Is it any wonder that giving up sugar for Lent is difficult?
As a matter of fact, is it any wonder I've put so much weight on over the past two years?

Everywhere I look, temptation.  In the pantry; last year's Easter egg, mint leaves, marshmallows tempting me to make hot chocolate, mini M&Ms and snakes.  Open up the fridge to find fig & chocolate jam, leftover Bavarian cheese cake, yoghurt and cream desert. And not to mention the individually wrapped kool fruits sitting on top of the servery...sigh...

Breakfast this morning?  Three pieces of fruit and a glass of water with one teaspoon of psyllium husks stirred in.

Comments Welcome

I welcome your comments; they are little personal notes to me. I enjoy reading what each of you have to say. Thanks for dropping by.
