Wild Weather

Our spring this year has seen exceptionally wild weather and summer seems to have kept on trend with one December week experiencing storms each day.
On Sunday 7th December, Mr HP and I drove through three storms as we made our way from one end of the city to the other and back again.
We had an invite to my sister's partner's 50th celebrations only to receive a phone call early in the day to let me know that my dearest aunt and God mother was seriously ill in hospital.  I knew I would never forgive myself if I had not made an attempt to see her for what might be the last time.  Thankfully she is on the mend but have no regrets that Mr HP and I fought the elements three times that day to make sure we not only visited my favourite aunt, but that we also managed to make it to the 50th party.
Here are some December weather snapshots.

Thirty minutes of hail fell on the 5th December while I was visiting my Daughter and Grand daughter.  Thankfully no damage was done.

When I returned home later in the day, there were some very strange cloud formations in the sky above our house.

Two days later we head into the first rain storm as we head out to visit my aunt in hospital.

Christmas eve in Leura...a whiteout. (Photo taken by Mr HP).

On Christmas Day, we had a wild electrical storm after lunch. We had to rearrange the tables to keep the wind-swept rain off the food, the children had to hop out of the swimming pool and eventually, the lanterns were blown away into the wind.

The one positive from all this precipitation is that the garden is doing wonderfully and the flowering plants are the best I've seen them for years.

Post Party Review

We had a few celebrities turn up at our party last night...

Cindy Lauper on the left, accompanied by young Tommy Lee...

Dolly Parton...

And Robert Smith (The Cure)came too

as did Kermit the Frog and

The Pointy Sister (let your imagine run free...)

Black Lace agadoo-ed with a pineapple, La La danced with her Mum and Bob Marley and The Brady Bunch made a cameo appearance.

Bed time was a late affair, some not hitting the pillow until two AM-ish.
Two pre-schoolers acted as alarm clock this morning ensuring we were all up and about by seven thirty.

So what else do you do on a beautiful spring morning in the Blue Mountains but spend it with  your sisters in the garden?

Chocolate Overload - A Family Celebrates.

In the last four weeks, our Daughter celebrated her 37th Birthday, First Son turned 40, my Baby Sister turned 50 and my Mum, 79.
Not to forget, Niece 'M' turned six years of age and Step-Niece 'A' 21.
In amongst shingles and 'flu we have managed to carry on with celebrations, although poor Mr Honey Pie missed a family get-to-gether to celebrate First Son's engagement last weekend.  (One more thing to celebrate!)
Fiftieth Birthdays are celebrated with gusto in my family of origin so we have a great night of celebration about to begin.
Have you ever tried to organise accommodation for sixteen people?
Five sister, their partners and children and our Mum are about to have the time of our lives.

Here is a peak at our accommodation in lovely Leura in the Blue Mountains.

The house is called Darjeeling House.

The number of bathrooms is too many to count, as are the bedrooms.
Little nooks with armchairs are everywhere, along with a TV room, a lounge room with fire, little alcoves with extra beds, lots of warm floor rugs, interesting vintage items and warm timber everywhere you look.
I've had a little walk through the garden with its flowering cherry trees and bulbs.
But it is cold and it's time to get a fire going to keep us warm.

How do you celebrate your family
'Big' Birthdays?

Dunn's Swamp and Bushfire Season.

After a relaxing and breathtakingly quiet weekend camped at Dunn's Swamp we have returned to a scary situation here in the beautiful Blue Mountains.
As we returned home yesterday evening, we were passed by a multitude of fire fighting vehicles on the way to a  bushfire at Leura.
Today it's a ferociously windy day with smoke in the air.
I had planned to do laundry duty today.
Instead I'm spurred on to prepare an emergency pack in case of bushfire.
We live in an extreme bushfire zone. Exit is via a one way out road. Bushland spans the entire south western side.

Comments Welcome

I welcome your comments; they are little personal notes to me. I enjoy reading what each of you have to say. Thanks for dropping by.
