First Day of School, Dentists & Spiders

Wow - what a day, our little Miss Five started school today.  We love you so much our gorgeous girl.  May your school life be filled with many positive experiences.
This morning was also my visit to the dentist to begin root canal therapy.  I think I would have handled the visit a bit better if I hadn't had to wait over thirty minutes for my appointment.  This was long enough for my anxiety to build and to see me on the verge of tears.  I am afraid dentists are not my favourite members of the medical profession, even though I understand how necessary they are.  Well I survived but have been very unsteady on my feet all afternoon.
Then I returned home to find that Mr Honey Pie had a run in with what is one of the most venomous spiders in the world...the funnel web.
The Blue  Mountains is experiencing a plague of funnel webs at present, some of my social pages 'friends' reporting finding them in shoes, in lounge rooms and in swimming pools. One friend had one fall onto her head when she visited the chook pen and went through a series of ninja moves to make any Leader ninja proud.
Hubby found this one in the garden while he was cleaning away some building material.  Once, about fourteen years ago, we found one in our wardrobe...believe me that was scary!

    1. Yes, hubby's fine thanks! He has decided that it might be a good idea to wear boots whilst working in the garden.

  3. Poor you, a root canal is a real ordeal. I hope you will not suffer too much discomfort as the anaesthetic wears off.
I am longing to know how Miss got on at school!

    1. Thanks Robyn, I'm on the mend...until next time. Hubby laughs it off with "I was wearing my safety thongs". (Probably only something an Aussie would unnderstand!).

  5. What a day for you all! I hope you are all better now. That is one scary spider - it would have made a great Show and Tell at school if it wasn't so venomous :)

    1. My Grand daughter was intrigued by it Helen...and we sat her down and had a little talk to her about what she should if she ever came across one.

  6. That looks like a big spider SP. How big are they really? You have a few hazardous creatures in Australia huh? We are lucky and don't have any really dangerous critters here in NZ - Dave

    1. It was about 5cm long Dave. This one's probably a female. (The more dangerous of the two). A male is smaller with longer legs.
We uncovered this one when clearing away building material so other than when it rains a lot, or the male is searching for a mate, they stay under ground where they normally build tunnels into the earth with 'funnel' shaped webs at their entrance.
Yes, we do have to take care here in Australia when we're out and about, especially in the bush.
